Why PVC Outlasts Wood for Decorative Exterior Trim

Decorative exterior trim takes more abuse than flat trim surfaces. Corbels, brackets, and rafter tails are three-dimensional, which means more surface area exposed to weather, more end grain to absorb moisture, and more joints where water can infiltrate. Wood in these applications requires frequent repainting and eventual replacement as rot works into the joints and exposed ends.

PVC eliminates those failure points. It does not absorb moisture, will not rot or crack from freeze-thaw cycles, and holds paint longer than wood because the substrate does not move with humidity changes. For decorative exterior trim that needs to look good for decades without recurring maintenance, PVC is the correct material specification.

PVC Corbels

Corbels are one of the most visible exterior trim details on a home or commercial building. They appear under rooflines, porch beams, gable overhangs, and kitchen range hoods, and their profile and proportion define the architectural character of the installation. PVC Brackets

Decorative brackets are used at gable ends, under overhangs, and at beam and post intersections to add visual weight and architectural detail. PVC Braces

Braces provide the diagonal support detail commonly seen under porch beams, pergola headers, and exterior overhangs. In traditional construction these were structural; in contemporary trim work they are primarily decorative but carry significant visual impact. PVC braces hold their profile and finish without the cracking and paint failure that affects wood braces in exterior conditions.

PVC Rafter Tails

Rafter tails are the exposed ends of roof rafters visible at the eave line. Their profile, whether straight cut, curved, or detailed, contributes substantially to the architectural style of a structure. Custom PVC rafter tails allow the profile to be specified precisely, ensuring consistency across every bay and eliminating the rot that commonly affects exposed wood rafter ends over time.

PVC Outlookers

Outlookers serve a similar function to rafter tails but project from the rake rather than the eave, adding detail to gable overhangs. Custom PVC outlookers can be profiled to match rafter tails on the same structure, creating a consistent roofline detail that reads as intentional and well-executed from the street.
