Cellular PVC for Exterior Door and Window Trim

PVC is the right material when a crosshead is going outside or anywhere it will see moisture. Unlike wood, it does not absorb water, warp, rot, or feed insects, so it holds its profile and paint film through repeated wet-dry cycles. That makes these kits a fit for front entry crossheads, garage door headers, exterior window trim, porch openings, and any application where a wood crosshead would need replacement in a few seasons. The white finish is paintable out of the box, so you can match existing trim or specify a custom color.

Assembly: Cut, Glue, Done

Field assembly takes minutes per opening. Cut the bottom board to your finished width. Cut the trim moulding to your finished top width, then miter-cut the returns off the scrap and attach to the sides of the backing so the profile wraps cleanly into the wall. Run a bead of PVC-compatible construction adhesive along the back of the trim moulding, set it on top of the board, and clamp or tape until cured. No biscuits, no dowels, no shop equipment. A miter saw and a caulk gun are the only tools required, regardless of which kit you choose.

Lightweight Handling on the Ladder

A PVC stick weighs a fraction of a comparable wood or composite piece, which matters when you are setting a wide crosshead over a doorway by yourself. One person can carry the kit components up a ladder, dry-fit, and fasten without a helper. For production trim work and remodels where labor cost drives the job, that handling difference adds up across an install.
